Flower was painted by the famed Czech artist Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) in 1897. The created media for this piece of work was lithography with a allegorical genre.

This work was created at the height of the art nouveau fashion, made famous especially in France and European cultural cities. Mucha, who lived in Paris for a time, designed and created many artworks for postcards and advertisements.

This piece of work is an excellent icon of Mucha's work within the art nouveau scene, his intricate linear designs and flowing curves demonstrate this perfectly.

This is a rather subdued painting with a lone woman staring off into the distance. The main attraction to the woman is the amount of flowers surrounding her, tied into her hair and flowing down her robes.

What is most striking about the female is the look in her eyes, some may describe her as looking sad, almost melancholy; while others describe her as thinking deeply about a lost love.

What Mucha has captured with her is a sense of longing, perhaps sensing what the future holds in the coming season.

She holds delicately a garland of flowers within her hands, the deep greens, browns and oranges blend together to create a beautiful whimsical style to this painting.

This is not the only painting Mucha created with women as a focus point.

Most of his works contains some visions of women, either alone or in groups. The feminine forms are almost always portrayed as beautiful or innocent creatures, often wearing robes with flowing hair.

Flowers are also a much used tool in his work, either being held by the figures in the pictures or as a focus point elsewhere.
